PROJECT SHOWCASE
Food delivery app
A case study project for a food delivery from an Italian restaurant Luminoso.
ROLE: UX UI designer designing an app from conception to delivery
DURATION: 2 months
01. ABOUT THE PROJECT
Challenge
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way people dine out, with many preferring to order food online for delivery or pickup. People are too busy to spend their time on meal preparation, but want to order tasty and good quality food and try new meals from restaurants.
Luminoso is a modern Italian restaurant, committed to delivering a unique dining experience that combines the freshest ingredients with the latest culinary techniques. The restaurant has a large loyal customer base who want to order food from the restaurant easily, stay tuned for new seasonal dishes on the menu and receive exclusive offers.
Solution
Design a food delivery app where users can easily order food from the comfort of their own homes or while on-the-go, without the hassle of physically going to the restaurant. The app provides users with access to exclusive menus, personalized discounts based on their preferences and ordering history. This incentivizes users to use the app and order more frequently, while also saving them money. This can also help the restaurant to build a loyal customer base, which is crucial for long-term success.

02. RESEARCH
Competitor analysis results

This competitor analysis examines three Italian restaurant food delivery apps in Cyprus: Da Paolo, PizzaExpress and La Piazza. By analyzing their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, I gain insights into customer preferences and areas for improvement. This analysis helps identify strategies to enhance the app's performance and user experience in a highly competitive market.

Insight

Users may opt for competitors' apps if they offer more menu options and detailed description

Solution

Provide clear and concise menu items with detailed descriptions, ingredients, and photos

Pain

Users may find it frustrating when they cannot use their preferred payment method to complete an order

Solution

Offer multiple payment options (e.g. PayPal, Apple Pay, credit/debit cards) for convenience.

Pain

Difficult navigation (example: hard to find menu) or slow loading times can frustrate users and cause them to abandon the app.

Solution

Simplify the interface, put the menu on the homepage and ensure fast loading times for a smoother user experience.

Insight

Users may be incentivized to use a competitor's app if they can earn rewards or receive discounts for repeat orders.

Solution

Offer exclusive offers and a loyalty program to incentivize app usage and build a loyal customer base.

Meet the users

Based on desk research, customer personas were developed in order to better understand target users and design a user-centered experience.

03. DESIGN PROCCESS
User Flow
By constructing a user flow of what a basic start to finish journey looks like while order a food from restaurant, this helps me in understanding ways users can interact with the product, as well as allowing to see navigation through user goals.
Wireframes
After sketching out some paper wireframes and thinking through the preliminary flow, I reviewed what was nessecary, unessecary , and what areas needed improvement. For a more precise understanding of app content, functionality, and usability study I made 20+ wireframes and a low-fidelity prototype
04. TEST PHASE
Usability study findings
In this case study, two rounds of usability studies were conducted for a food delivery mobile app from an Italian restaurant. The first study involved wireframes and findings were used to guide the designs toward mockups. The second study was conducted using a high-fidelity prototype to further refine the mockups and identify areas that needed improvement. The usability studies provided valuable insights into how users interacted with the app and helped ensure a smooth and seamless user experience.

Round 1 findings

- Users need the option to choose their address on the map
- Users want to order dishes quickly with clear navigation and the menu on the homepage
- Users want to receive confirmation after placing an order to ensure that it has been received

Round 2 findings

- Users need to see details such as ingredients and calories easily
- Users want to save their addresses and payment details to save time
- Users want to track easily their order delivery
